This is a 2010 photo of my sister, Nancy Jo Wycoff (born Oct. 19, 1954), at a Sunbury, Ohio swimming party of the Delaware Library Book Club. She probably took a drink or two of the pool water, don't you think? My, how this takes me back to our summer swims at the the Stevens' pool over near Kilbourne, Ohio. The tune is from Kate & Anna McGarrigle's self-titled album of the 1970s, with their version of the Loudon Wainwright's song.

1940 Delaware - Heart of Ohio Baseball League , R. B. Foster, player-manager
Lower left in photo is Bobby Burns "Chesty" Foster, born & died in Delaware, OH (1898-1980). He was owner-proprietor of Foster Paint & Wallpaper in Delaware, was my Mom's dad. Grandpa's 2 baseball gloves wy first mitts- on lucky days I'd get Dad and him to play ball with me until it was too dark, or they were too tired. Fireflies and a hazy farm summer night, a peach-colored sunset are gentle in my mind, as I gaze again at this photo. Note: I also have to wonder why Granpa snipped off the heads of the top row players. Probably to fit in the frame it was in, I suppose. Probably. But maybe he had a chuckle as he was making silent comments on their playing! You have any suggestions? Could be fun to ponder. Maybe that was part of his little joke, too .NOTE: The song, "Friendly Competition" is from John McCutceon's 2010 CD, "Passage."
Karen & Mary (daughter, mother) Dec. 15, 2009
This photo, I took with Karen's Cannon digital camera. I think it's the only one I ever took of the two of them. It captures one of countless evenings in our kitchen, with the old clock marking time. Mary died on March 29, 2011, age 90. She moved out to Montana in October, 1989. Among many stories she shared, one was how She had attended the 1948 World Series in Cleveland. Got all gussied up, and took the bus from Warren with her cousin. She could at one time name many of the players, when we would reminisce on baseball memories. Good times. NOTE: The song is by Dan Reeder. "The Walk to the God House" from his 2010 release, "The New Century."

I'm a news junkie. While I still skim the Washington Post and New York Times online, I look to news aggregators like RealClearWorld for a broader perspective. This site "selects the best international news, opinions and analyses from English-language publications in over 50 countries and all six continents." Current topics include international coverage of the war in Libya, Middle East unrest, and the disasters in Japan. There are three connected sites worth reading too: RealClearPolitics, RealClearMarkets, and RealClearSports.I will also add the RSS feed to this blog, on the left side...
